Pimsleur--German Language Courses
Pimsleur German language courses are one of the most popular solutions for beginners. This is partly because with the Pimsleur method there are no textbooks to contend with. The all-audio nature of the course puts the emphasis on listening comprehension, pronunciation and active speaking of the target language.
Each stage is carefully designed to give the student maximum fluency and proficiency to the level set out by the course. All courses use native speakers to ensure accurate diction and accent.
The Pimsleur German course will take the student from beginner level through to a high intermediate level of comprehension. The courses are broken down into convenient half-hour lessons across 9 CDs. There are two modules, A and B, per level and three levels in total to the course, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. The combined course equates to over 72 hours of instruction!
Pimsleur German beginners course Level 1
In the Pimsleur German Beginners course, you will learn to form grammatically correct sentences pertaining to the most common life, business and travel situations including greeting others, days of the week, asking for directions, eating and drinking, going to a restaurant, making plans, telling time, negotiating purchases and dealing with money, numbers and counting, talking about your family and asking others about their families, socializing with colleagues and friends, asking someone out on a date, and general work and business discussions. You will learn to express yourself mainly in the present tense and you will be introduced to the past tense toward the end.
How Much Will I Learn?
Upon completion of the Pimsleur German beginners course (30 lessons), the learner will have achieved spoken-language communication skills at the lower-intermediate level. This level is characterized by the ability to participate in simple, direct conversations on every day topics, in everyday situations; by being able to satisfy immediate needs, such as ordering food and making simple purchases; and by being able to establish rapport with strangers in a foreign country.
Pimsleur German intermediate course Level 2
The Pimsleur German intermediate course consolidates on the progress made in Level 1 by expanding upon your ability to communicate ideas in the past tense. The level 2 course will also introduce you to using verbs in the future tense.
How Much Will I Learn?
Upon completion of Pimsleur German Level 1 and Level 2 (60 lessons), the learner will have achieved spoken-language communication skills at the middle-intermediate level. This level is characterized by creative ability in the target language and by being able to communicate personal meaning to native speakers by combining and recombining known elements and conversational input to correctly form sentences of increasing length.
Pimsleur German advanced course Level 3
Pimsleur German Level 3 builds on the structures learnt in Level 1 and Level 2. Level 3 will help you to expand upon your ability to communicate ideas in the future tense.
How Much Will I Learn?
Upon completion of Pimsleur German Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 (90 lessons), the learner will have achieved the higher-intermediate level. This level is characterized by the ability to:
- obtain, sustain and bring to a close a number of basic, communicative exchanges
- satisfy personal needs and social demands
- survive and cope in the target language and culture.
The learner can converse with growing ease and confidence, narrate and describe in terms of past, present and future, using connected discourse of considerable conversational length.
