Wizard in the Kitchen
The next issue of our German Audio Magazine has just been printed. Issue 20-03 of Schau ins Land is currently shipping to subscribers.
Schau ins Land Issue Contents
We've pulled off a culinary coup in the latest issue of Schau ins Land. Our main interview in 20-03 is with Germany's most renowned chef Eckhart Witzigmann. Witzigmann, studied under Paul Bocuse and went onto create Germany's first three-star Michelin restaurant. In our interview he talks about his colorful past and his current cookbook and restaurant projects. In another feature we move from chef de cuisine to sultan of swing with a profile of the young Jazz vocalist Roger Cicero. He's already represented Germany in the Eurovision song contest and his debut album was Germany's best-selling record by a homegrown artist in 2006. Sticking with music we go to Switzerland for an interview with Friedrich Jakob, the former head of the Swiss company Orgelbau Kuhn, widely regarded as the best organ builders in Europe. Other highlights of 20-03 include a light-hearted profile of Udo Walz, Berlin-based coiffeur to the famous, whose clients include a former German chancellor and famous actresses. Lastly, on a more serious note, don't miss our thought-provoking feature on how Germany is getting to grips with the issue of climate change.

Notable Notes
German Notable Note: Polydor records--extract from Schau ins Land 22-02
Did you know that the Beatles' first release was on Polydor? This note from Tim Obojski sheds some light on the early days of one of the most successful groups of all time.
The Polydor label was launched in 1924 as the export arm of the Berlin-based Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft (headquartered today in Hamburg and part of the U.S.-based Universal Music Group). Shortly after World War II, it became the popular-music division of Deutsche Grammophon, whose famous yellow label was reserved for classical recordings. A British branch was established in 1956. Today the label is based in London and called Polydor Records. In 1961, Polydor made a number of recordings in Hamburg, produced by Bert Kaempfert (see note 69), that featured British rock 'n' roll singer Tony Sheridan and a backup band billed as the Beat Brothers that would soon gain fame as the Beatles. The band (then with Pete Best on drums) had a gig at the time in the Top Ten Club on the Reeperbahn. The Polydor single "My Bonnie"/"The Saints" was the Beatles' first commercial release. They signed a recording contract with EMI's London-based Parlophone label the following year; their first single was "Love Me Do"/"P.S. I Love You."
